Portuguese Job Interview Dialogue and Practice

Situation Overview

You are interviewing for an office, customer service, or entry-level professional role in a Portuguese-speaking workplace. You need to greet the interviewer, summarize your experience, explain past responsibilities, describe a strength, give one concrete example, discuss availability, and close politely. The dialogue uses everyday Brazilian Portuguese with respectful professional language. In Portugal, the same structure works, but you may hear entrevista de emprego, candidatura, and more formal address with o senhor or a senhora.

Grammar in Context

The interview dialogue uses ter + time period + de experiência to summarize work history: tenho três anos de experiência em atendimento ao cliente. You can reuse this pattern with a field or skill: tenho dois anos de experiência em vendas, tenho experiência com planilhas, or tenho experiência em treinamento.

For regular past responsibilities, Portuguese often uses the imperfeito: eu respondia e-mails, atendia chamadas, and acompanhava pedidos. This tense is useful when you describe what you used to do repeatedly in a previous job.

To sound professional without sounding too blunt, soften opinions with the conditional: eu diria que sou organizado. The same pattern works for strengths and fit: eu diria que sou flexível, eu diria que a vaga combina com meu perfil.
