Portuguese Pharmacy Dialogue and Practice
Situation Overview
You are at a pharmacy in a Portuguese-speaking city and need help with a mild health problem. You will explain symptoms, ask for medicine without a prescription, understand dosage instructions, mention allergies or other medicine, and ask when you should see a doctor. The dialogue uses everyday Brazilian Portuguese with polite service language. In Portugal, you may hear farmácia in the same way, medicamento more often than remédio, and receita médica for prescription.

Grammar in Context
The pharmacy dialogue uses algo para + noun to ask for medicine by symptom: algo para dor de garganta, algo para tosse, and algo para alergia. This is useful when you do not know the exact product name.
Portuguese uses estar com for temporary symptoms: estou com dor, estou com febre, estou com tosse, and estou com nariz entupido. Use ter for allergies and regular conditions: tenho alergia a dipirona and tenho pressão alta.
For dosage instructions, notice time expressions with a cada: uma pastilha a cada seis horas and use o spray até três vezes ao dia. Pharmacy instructions also use polite command forms: use, não passe de, and procure um médico.
